I love to write. I often miss creative writing; I enjoy writing about love and feelings in particular. This blog was born because of adventuring in the dating world, but it really made my heart full when I met Robert and started writing about us.
I studied journalism and communications in college. I took some graduate classes in English, and I feel like people basically think I took a million classes about reading and writing. This would make me a well-read scholar, right? I have not revisited classic literature since my freshman year of college, though.
Last year I read 18 books. The year before that, I read 12. I think I set my reading goal at 20 this year — I am a firm believer in realistic goals for New Year’s resolutions. I am inherently a dreamer. I have had too many years of things along the lines of “choosing a word of a year” or “getting in great shape” to keep making nonspecific or concrete resolutions. I was not “Fearless” in 2018, and I don’t believe I can reach a goal of “getting in great shape,” because what the hell does that even mean? Anyway, reading a concrete number of books is a great goal. It doesn’t matter what the content is, how long they are, or when I read them — I will be gathering some kind of knowledge from other creative people this year. Mindy Kaling has a lot to teach about not taking yourself too seriously and how to pursue a dream that may look unrealistic to others. Frieda McFadden entertains her readers and helps scratch some of the crime solving itch. There are books about true crime, love stories that read like a bad Hallmark love story, and ones that are deep and make you think.
I often think that I want to write more. I am inconsistent in posting on here, and often tired from work so do not want to spend time thinking too hard about my thoughts and feelings. I also just feel “blah” about the right side of my brain these days. Again, I am tired from work and my work is not very creative. Reading might be the one thing that can jumpstart my creativity. I decided tonight that I am going to alternate reading my goofy novels with classic literature. I want to start with something that I have never read before — Wuthering Heights. I want a good love story, and I have heard this is a tragic one, but that it really pulls at your heart. Wish me luck! The reading starts tonight.
By the way, I used AI to come up with the title of this blog… What do you think? I always loved writing, but hated coming up with a headline.
